FF2 - Didn’t Totally Suck
![]()
There's some spoilers ahead, so if you haven't seen the movie, don't read any further.
I caught the FF2 movie this past Friday night. There's actually a cool movie tavern place nearby, and it's a damn good thing to get real food and a drink while your watching a movie. I may not go anywhere else but there to watch movies. It still has the usual downsides, namely idiots and kids. I get that you want to see the movie, and want to bring your three year old, but if your freaking kid is the type that has to announce things to everyone in the theater every three damn seconds, do the rest of us a freaking favor and wait for it to come out on DVD. I like kids, but hearing "THAT'S THE THING!" or "WHAT'S THAT" ten times, it gets damned annoying.
The movie had some downsides for me, and some surprises. I thought the whole Galactus thing was just ok. I realize I might be one of the few that wanted to see the classic giant guy in purple and blue armor, but I was a little disappointed anyway. You did see his face in the evil cloud thing, so it wasn't a total loss. I didn't like the whole ending where Silver Surfer explodes or whatever, and it looks like he destroys Galactus. I mean, if you could have killed him at any time, why not before he ate the last 50 planets? Take one for the team dammit.
I would have liked to see a little more Doom as, well, Dr. Doom. Them making him look human again was a little bit too easy I think, but it worked it's way into the story ok, so I'll let it pass. I do like that they had him slap the mask and cape back on when he stole the board, which struck me as he was more Doom playing the normal looking guy, than the other way around.
I didn't really care for the board being the Silver Surfer's power. Again, it wasn't bad and went with the story, but it seemed an unneeded change to the character. I realize for the story you had to make him powerless, and Doom steal the power, but I think they could have found someone to come up with a little bit better story. Of course I didn't read any of the Ultimate Galactus stuff (which I heard sucked), so maybe they stole the idea from there.
I enjoyed the comedy in the movie. More than I thought I would really. I think all the characters seemed a little more real this time around, like it was actually their lives, with them used to their powers. I would like to see Thing get into a good fight, but they had some decent scenes at the end when Torch went all Super Skrull.
Overall, I enjoyed it, and wouldn't mind seeing them make another one.
