Heroes Season 3
Well Heroes certainly did not screw around coming out of the gate this season. Almost as if they said "You thought season 2 was too slow? Here, take this."
There are certainly some potentially interesting plot threads to go through the season. Although I do have a few nits to pick (don't I always?)
POTENTIALLY SPOILERISH STUFF FOLLOWS!!!!!!
#1. So we have to save the future again? Really? What's wrong with saving the present? I'm sure there's some pretty bad shit going on in the present right? Are there no wars in the Heroes universe? No poverty? Isn't there potentially a group of survivors thought dead from a plane crash stranded on an unknown island somewhere that need rescued?
#2. The sequence with Sylar and Claire I thought was pretty good, but how did he find her so fast? To our knowledge the Bennett family was still pretty well in hiding and the only folks who knew who they were and where they were came from "The Company". I get that it makes for a hell of an opening, but boy do you have to make a bit of a leap on how Sylar got there.
#3. Hiro and Ando. Instead of just telling Ando that Ando kills him in the futurue wouldnt it have been prudent for Hiro to tell Ando "It's okay though, because about 30 seconds later the whole world seems to have epxloded so it looks like we would both have been dead anyhow. But maybe if you and I can keep the world from blowing up, I don't have to worry about you killing me." You know being best friends all, perhaps full disclosure is a good policy. Especially when the fate of the world hangs in the balance. I'm just sayin'.
#4. Are we really gonna rip off The Fly so blatantly in Mohinder's story arc? Don't get me wrong, mad props to the boy for tagging Maya, but still. science experiment on himself, suddenly he faster, stronger, more agile than he's ever been, he sucks down chocolate milks by the metric crapload and fucks like a bunny rabbit? Oh yeah, and then he start molting. David Cronenberg should sue someone.
#5. So Mrs. Petrelli chastises "evil" Peter about having screwed up the future timeline. But wasn't she the one that was convinced that Manhattan had to be destroyed in season 1? Since that didn't happen how does she even know what this timeline holds? OR are we supposed to believe she so fucking smart that she knew her sons would save Manhattan and it was all a really elaborate plot to make this timeline happen? Er, that is of course until "evil" Peter fucked this timeline up. Tim Kring should go ask some Xmen writers about fucking around with time travel and alternate timelines in your stories too much, and Jeph Loeb sure as fuck should know better.
So who knows where this all leaves us. I think they kicked up enough potential I'll follow along for the ride, but there are more than a few hints of either sloppy or lazy storytelling, methinks.
