Nova, Skaar And Templars

Only three reviews today, but I should have several more for Friday. I should really give an update on Trinity since I picked up #11-#13 today, and I'm a few issues behind on Daredevil also. Oh yeah, and Moon Knight. Alright, on to today's stuff.

The Mice Templar #5

There's a few good things in this issue, and a few interesting hooks that make me look forward to the next issue. I'll try not to give too much away.

The first several pages of the issue is a story about Kuhl-En, who is the near mythical creator of the Templar. It's a pretty decent story, and I wouldn't have minded a few more pages of it.

Pilot and the hero of the story, Karic, are in the Great Tree talking to what's left of the Templar. The issue jumps back and forth between this and Karic's family, currently prisoners of the Rats, who are taking them to the mice capital of Dealrach Ard-Vale.

I also enjoyed the details about the mice capital. In the beginning, it seemed more of a mice vs. rats kind of thing and not all that in-depth, but what you find out in the city adds a new layer to everything that's happening. They also add in weasels as bad guys, which I find amusing for some odd reason.

There's also a few interesting plot twists to Karic's part of the story, which I really didn't see coming. The plot twists here are what really give it a few hooks so I want to see what happens next. The twists are concerning Pilot, who was training Karic, and the prophecy Pilot told Karic he was going to fulfill.

There's only one more issue in this first story arc, and I'm interested to see where it goes.

I'll admit that for the first several issues I was up and down about this one, but this issue was pretty good. Hopefully issue #6 keeps up that trend.

Skaar Son Of Hulk #3

Well, this issue was a lot better than the last one. The issue is still separated into two halves, the first part about Skaar, and the second half about Axeman Bone. I'd still like to see the whole issue be about Skaar, seeing as how he's the title character, but at least this time the back story was better and seemed to have more to do with the current events. I'm still not sure why they are bothering with it, but I'll roll with it for now.

In this issue, Skaar somewhat teams up with the new character from last issue, Princess Omaka, who like everyone else tries to kill Skaar. I'll throw in a little spoiler here, in that Skaar also starts to talk, which I think was a good idea. The grunting and nothing but fighting made him seem seriously one dimensional as a character, and hopefully they'll move beyond that. Which is another reason I don't get the whole half and half issue idea. they could have expanded on that nicely this issue.

I'm still a little on the fence about this one. It has some potential, so I'm happy to give a few more issues to see how things go.

Nova #16

This was a pretty good issue, as the whole Nova series has been so far. This is a set up issue to get Nova, and the readers, up to speed on the whole Secret Invasion thing, and also to get Nova into the mix. I think it was handled a lot better than the last Guardians issue which felt forced. While this issue is a little uneventful, it's still has some humor, a little combat, and a bit of a twist at the end.  It also brings back Super Skrull, who I really enjoyed as a character from both Annihilation series. Hopefully he sticks around for a while. I'd say just to ship him over to the Guardians too, but everyone can't be in the Guardians. The teams already pretty big.

This issue's pretty strait forward except for the final page. I'm really thinking that the big twist is a red herring, but who knows. It'd be really disappointing if it wasn't though. I'm also interested to see if Nova and Captain Marvel (if you've been following Secret Invasion, you get that) might team up. That would be interesting.

Another solid Nova issue, even though it's just a transition issue to get Nova involved in the Secret Invasion.

That's all for today. I'll have some more on Friday.
