I’m sure some of it is good.

Well I did make it to the comic shop today.

I just haven't read anything yet.

And truth be told, I'm feeling a bit apathetic about my stack this week. It's not even a knock against the particular comics out for this week. It's been more of a growing apathy about my comics. I go through this from time to time where I start thinking "Am I really enjoying all this stuff?" In a general sense, yes I am. But not as much I would like to be, and I think that is the core of the problem.

I would venture to say that 90% of the comics I buy are what you would qualify as "good". The other 10% are the pieces of shit that drift in and out as it suddenly dawns on me that they suck and I purge them from the reading list. Anyhow, it is probably safe to say I have a substantial number of comics that are "good".

But I want my comics to be "great". Every last one of them. And occasionally I want one to transcend from "great" and move up to "completely fucking awesome". Currently I'm just not getting that. So who knows where that is headed. I'm sure I will shuffle along with my "just good" comics for awhile and occasionally bitch about it to any of you that might actually be reading.

Little DVO and I finally put Marvel Ultimate Alliance to bed over the weekend. I can't bring myself to do a full blown review on a game I know to be two years old (if not older) at this stage, but suffice to say it was fun. The last several levels got pretty intense without being hard for the sake of hard. The moment we beat Galactus was pretty awesome as the battle with Galactus was something little DVO had looked forward to pretty much from the moment he saw is picture on the opening screen. Of course he constantly reminds me now that it was actually us that beat Galactus, but more us just creating a distraction for the Silver Surfer to render him unconscious. I know, it sounds goofy even just reading it, doesn't it?

Beyond that, we had a confrontation with Doom that paid off the story nicely even if everything up to the third act of the whole thing was complete nonsense. Even after the game is done, there's a nice cut scene to tell you about the "future who helped to create". What we didn't realize as we went through the game was that the optional missions played into this end cut scene. Depending on the stories you completed and how they finished decides how the cut scene pays out. So we did well in some places, and not so well in others. I don't want to give too much away for anyone who may not have played it yet, but shit is going to go pretty bad for mutants and it's basically our fault. Sorry about that kids.

I swear there is a Walking Dead post in me somewhere. It's been in the back of my head for a bit now, but I just haven't found the time for it yet. Hopefully you'll see it before the next volume of the thing is done.

Reading list time:

  1. Captain Britain and MI13 #4 - I flipped through this in the store. It appears this may be the end of the Secret Invasion arc for this book. Which is fairly interesting given that SI proper still has three more issues after this week.
  2. Zorro #6 - No offense to Matt Wagner, but much like the Lone Ranger book I'm ready for us to move past the origin story now.
  3. Wonder Woman #23 - This wraps up the most recent arc.
  4. Batman #679 - Batman R.I.P> continues. Although at this point there is so much buzz around what is coming after R.I.P. I'm not sure anyone is even paying attention to this story anymore.
  5. Astonishing Xmen #26 - I was a bit underwhelmed by the first issue of Warren Ellis run on this book. Everyone just sounded a bit too British for me.
  6. Secret Invasion: Thor #1 - I know, I know. I said I almost never buy the little miniseries tie-ins for event books. But it's Matt Fraction writing Thor! I cracked under the pressure! At least I left Secret Invasion: Xmen and Secret Invasion: Inhumans on the shelf.
  7. Secret Invasion #5 - Anyone else feel like we probably have one more big Skrull reveal left in this story before it's all said and done?
