The Perfect Storm
God bless The Monkey.
Okay, perhaps not bless him as I know that would be asking alot. Just don't strike him dead as you likely desire to do from time to time.
First he braved GL:Rebirth, a feat even I have not attempted yet. Then dared to suggest it might not suck, thus incurring the wrath of one EvilArtist. In spite of the admonishing he dared to read further in the new epic adventures of Hal Jordan. Somewhere admist that he had what alcoholics call "a moment of clarity" and saw the book in it's true form.
Ironically it appears his moment of clarity came while intoxicated.
But hey, In Vino Veritas.
I haven't actually read the book myself, I too am a Marvel Zombie. But I'll likely snag the stuff from him next we meet just to see the damage myself.
Another nasty week at ye olde comic shop. Last week I took solace in the fact I had two weeks worth of comics supplying the damage to my wallet. This week I just flat had 10 books with no excuses. One might conclude I'm developing a problem of sorts.
In my defense, there were several titles that have been long delayed that just magically showed up. All Star Batman and Robin #5 and Ultimates 2 #13 both appeared this week. We've lovingly referred to both books as annuals around these parts. For those that don't know, DC shipped exactly one issue of All Star Batman in 2006, with #5 this week being the first appearance of the title in 2007.
Ultimates 2 has also not been seen since 2006 and #13 is as thick as an annual. That is in part due to an excessively large foldout (8 pages I believe) of one epic ass battle between the Ultimates and some sort of giant demon looking things. You actually have to set the fucker down on a table just to be able to foldout the whole thing and view it. It's absurd and glorious all in the same moment.
In addition, Warren Ellis' zombie book, Black Gas 2 #2 appeared on the shelves. While it wasn't delayed near as long as All Star Batman or Ultimates, I know it's been several months since #1 came out. Thus I'm referring to this week in comics as the perfect storm for delayed books. Three in a week, what are the odds?
I must confess the delays on these books have been so long that I don't remember much of what happened before. I'll read them anyway. All Star and Ultimates will at least be pretty to look at. If I recall correctly, All Star didn't make much sense before so perhaps the delay will make amends for past sins. Black Gas is zombies eating people so I'm assuming it'll be pretty easy to figure out the story again.
With that, here's this week's reading rundown. Remember, from worst to best expectations:
- Uncanny Xmen 486
- Fallen Son: Captain America
- All Star Batman and Robin #5
- Moon Knight #10
- Batman #665
- Black Gas 2 #2
- X-Factor #19
- Ultimates 2 #13
- Ultimate Spiderman #109
- Mighty Avengers #3
Tonight's wine selection is a 2001 Taurino Salice Salentino Riserva. I have a fondness for the Italian reds and this is one of those that hits the right mix of price and taste for me.
