A Brief History . . .

So perhaps a bit of background here.

There are four of us who contribute to the site. We've all known each other for quite some time. The shortest stretch I think any of us have known each other is about 13 years, the longest in the ballpark of 30 years. Across that time line, we discovered we all had three things in common: comics, ranting, and liquor.

Now don't get all up in arms just yet. It ain't like we all started boozing it up in kindergarten. The comics came first, then the ranting, then the liquor. Of course the ranting got more animated with the addition of alcohol to the mix, but what can you do?

As Ghost mentioned, he is not currently in “the life” as he put it. The weekly comic buyers of our merry band are primarily myself and EvilArtist. EvilArtist has yet to make himself known to the blog, but trust me. He will. Oh yes, he will.

Anyhow, currently EvilArtist and I concentrate on the comics side of this escapade, Ghost and Monkey focus on the drinking aspect. We all partake in both from time to time, but it is more efficient to split up the tasks I think. I also find I don't wake up with near as many headaches from bad comics as I might from too much wine.

So as it goes, EvilArtist and I trying to keep the others a little more in the loop and the current happenings in comics. We pass along either books we think were great or books so horribly dreadful that the pain must be dispersed to others. Come to think of it, that's exactly how EvilArtist got me to read Infinite Crisis (bastard).

An exchange between the group in recent weeks will give you an idea of how this normally spins out. I had shared an interview with Dan Didio on Newsarama (which you can find here) on the coming end to 52 and the soon to begin Countdown weekly series. This led to a question from Monkey as to how Infinite Crisis, One Year Later, 52, and Countdown all fit together.

Now I don't really read much of DC comics. They are really more the EvilArtist's forte. I like the “big guns” and am familiar with their history. I've read several of the big event stories (or at least have knowledge of them). But by and large, the rest of the DC universe doesn't call out to me currently. Stil,l I've read Infinite Crisis and know enough about OYL and 52 to be able to explain how it fits together.

But the process of doing so doesn't exactly bring me joy.

Oh I could explain why the whole thing bothers me and likely will in another rant. But for now it's best to summarize it like this.

Trying to explain the current DC continuity to the Monkey is like trying to explain a beer and cabbage fart to a man with no sense smell. Even though you know he really wants to know the answer, you are certain he's not going to like it. In truth, you're not even sure you can do justice to the magnitude of vileness you've been asked to explain. And even if you can do it justice, you know the act of doing so will leave you feeling somewhat dirty and ashamed.
