Secret Invasion #4 - Spoilers
Alright, finally got around to posting about this issue, so let's just go ahead and get started.
The issue starts off with Mister Fantastic in a very bad way. He's stretched out flat on the the floor, with several machines doing things to him, and a bunch of Skrulls sitting in seats all around him. Like it's a little stadium or something like that. Pretty gruesome.
Next, we see the Skrull fleet moving towards Earth, and all those poor people form The Peak (the space station for SWORD) that got blown up in issue #1. Those people have been floating out there for four issues now. That must suck.
Next is The Sentry flying off into space, I guess still freaked out from what happened in issue two. What a worthless character. Just freaking kill him off already. I'm tired of them coming up with ways to make him go away while stuff happens because he's too powerful. Or at least give him some sort of story line while this is going on. Complete waste.
Then the see Ms. Marvel flying into New York.
All this time, someone's been talking about conquest, how the Skrulls are taking over, that there's nothing the heroes can do about it, and so on. We'll get to that in a minute.
Ms. Marvel gets to New York where all of the Super-Skrully bad guys are beating on everything in site. Fury and his Commandos are taking Skulls out pretty well. Their names seem to be Stonewall, Yo Yo, Druid, Daisy, and..well…maybe just Kid. They seem to be going though the role call while fighting thing, and they just call the little dude Kid, so I'm sticking with that as his name (I of course went to the front of the comic, and found his name is Phobos, and Daisy is actually Quake). Fury still has one big ass gun. I mean really, look at it:
Fury's gang seems to be rounding up people. Ms. Marvel is also fighting the Skrulls, but Fury seems to think that she's one of them, and blasts her. Stonewall has several people on his back when Fury's team teleports out, but I'm not sure if they were Skrulls or Heroes. Ms. Marvel gets blown into a group of Skrulls, and they all pile on her. Looks like it didn't go good.
Next, you find the person that's been talking the whole time is Spiderwoman, whose also known as the Skrull Queen. She's been telling Stark all of this, still convincing him that he's really a Skrull. Black Widow is outside, listening to it all, and prepares to shoot Spiderwoman-Skrull, when something rustles in the bushes.
The rustle is from Beast and Phoenix, and Widow immediately shoots them both. Also of note, with all the BUDDA BUDDA BUDDA from here gun, that goes on for several panels, she apparently has about 50 shots in that pistol of her's.
Spiderwoman takes off in all the shooting, and is gone by the time Widow dispatches the two Skrulls. Widow grabs Tony, gives him a shot of adrenaline, and gives him the "you're not a Skrull" pep talk. Wolverine walks in at this point, and Widow also fills him full of holes. Wolverine, I guess is the real one, because he comes up with the code word "carrot sticks". Not as funny as it could have been.
The three make a plan, and that plan seems to be to find Reed Richards.
We then flip to space, and all those people from The Peak still floating around. One of them, I can't remember her name (Agent Brand?) manages to catch one of the passing Skrull ships, and gets inside. She sees a bunch of security like monitors, and then runs into two Skrulls. It ends before you find out what happens.
We then jump to the downed Hellicarrier, with Jarvis asking Maria Hill about surrendering. She's defiant, and makes a comment about this being her ship, when all of the SHIELD agents around her turn into Skrulls. Another cliff hanger here.
Now things get really interesting.
We flip to Brooklyn, where The Hood and his gang of thugs decide that "No more Earth is bad for business" and then Hood tells them to "Get everyone". Pretty cool line I think.
Next, it's off to Central Park West, where the Skrulls are messing people when they catch a lighting bolt. In the sky, you can see the silhouette of Thor:
And then the issue ends with a little of Captain America:
Looks like another big fight coming. Should be good, and again, they've managed to make me geek a little bit with the last two images, and really look forward to the next issue.
