SDCC Programing Up For Wed. and Thurs.
SDCC has started to put up their programming schedule. Only Wednesday and Thursday are up at the moment, but I expect Friday to pop up sometime today.
This of course means that the "what the hell am I going to go see" debate has begun! Each year it's a juggling act for me between what I want to see more, and what I'll actually get into. Some of the lines have been pretty big, and I've just skipped things I wanted to see, in favor of seeing two other things instead of standing in line. Not that you'll care all that much, but I've decided to put my itinerary thoughts down here.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
We're getting into San Diego at something like 10:30AM local time, so we'll have more than enough time to get to the hotel and then goof off a bit in the Gaslamp District before even needed to head over and get our badges. Normally I'll hit the hall for half an hour or so to scout out what I want to buy and so on, and that's about it. This year though they have something going on:
6:00–7:30 and 7:30-9:00 Fringe Pilot Screenings - This is a new series by J.J. Abrams of Alias, Cloverfield, the new Star Trek movie, and Lost. Wouldn't mind seeing if I could con the Monkey into catching the 7:30 showing, and then heading out to the bar afterwards. It sounds a little Lost/X-Files like, and I like Abrams stuff for the most part, so I have faith it'll be at least interesting.
THURSDAY
Here we have the first big day, and there's some good stuff.
10:00-11:00 Kings: Exclusive Sneak Peek Screening and Q&A with Cast and Executive Producers - I don't know anything about this show, but it sounds interesting. Here's the blurb about it from the site
"Kings is a contemporary re-imagining of the timeless tale of David and Goliath, an epic story of greed and power, war and romance, forbidden loves and secret alliances, and a young hero who rises to power in a modern-day kingdom."
11:15-12:15 30th Anniversary Battlestar Galactica Panel - Richard Hatch and some "special guest stars" talk about BG. Could be good, could be ok.
11:30-12:30 SPORE: One-on-One with Will Wright - I'm pretty jazzed abou this game, and it'd be interesting to see Wright talk about it.Might have to hit this one.
11:30-1:00 20th Century Fox: The Day The Earth Stood Still and Max Payne - I'd probably see the SPORE panel first, but this would be the alternative at this time of the day. Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly and the Director of the movie will be there, and although I've only seen the teaser, it looks interesting.
12:00-1:00 Doctor Who—Writer Russell T Davies (Doctor Who), executive producer Julie Gardner (Torchwood), and writer Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) discuss their creative process and experience working on the BBC’s Doctor Who.
Yeah I might have to make it a big point to hit this one. I really enjoy the show, so It'd be cool to go see.
12:30-1:30 DC: Superman: Man of Tomorrow—The groundwork is being laid now for the next phase of Superman’s heroic career.
I'm kind of interested in this one, but if I can get into the Who thing, this is right out.
1:00-2:00 Mark and Sergio—The world’s fastest cartoonist joins forces with the Comic-Con 2008 weekend record holder for panel moderation!
I hear that this is a really fun thing to go see, and just haven't got around to it yet.
1:00-2:00 Torchwood - I only caught a few of these, but thought it was a pretty good show. Looks like they have a bunch of writers and cast there, so it might be fun. Might be right after the Who thing too, so I won't even have to get out of my seat.
1:45-2:45 Marvel: X-Men - Well, if this one isn't packed, I might sneak out of the Torchwood panel to get in here.
4:15-5:15 Lionsgate/Marvel: Hulk vs. Wolverine - I guess this is an animated movie along the lines of the two Avengers, Iron Man, and Dr. Strange movies. Might have to catch this one.
4:45-5:45 Mondo Marvel - This mostly about what's upcoming for "Iron Man, Hulk, Daredevil, the FF, and all things Marvel." so it might be a must see, which screws me out of the Hulk vs, Wolverine thing.
5:30-6:30 The Science Behind Science Fiction - Yes, I am a science geek, yes I want to go to this, yes I probably won't get to. Well maybe. I bet I could sneak in after the Mondo Marvel thing.
5:45-6:45 Showtime: Dexter - Great show, love to see the panel, but I haven't seen any of the second season yet, so there might be too many spoilers for me to go see it.
6:00-7:00 DC Nation - Much like the Mondo Marvel thing, this is probably a must. Though I think DC has really gone downhill, and wonder if this will be just a bunch of crap that annoys me.
6:00-7:00 The Comics Blogosphere - I'm thinking this would be a good one to go to, but I'll probably be at the DC thing. This is a good back up though.
8:00-8:30 Lionsgate and Marvel: Punisher: War Zone!— I don't have high hopes for this movie, but I might hit the panel to see if my fears are justified or not.
8:30-9:00 Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures: Saw 5 - Eh, I like the movies, and if I don't have to move out of my seat to watch this, might as well.
Well, that's it for the first day, and like I said, there's a lot going on. The Monkey and I plan to be blogging semi-live from the Con this year. I know Monkey scored one of the new 3G iPhones today, so he has no excuse. I have 12 days to find one, so hopefully I'll have one before we leave. That doesn't mean we'll blog about everything, though I bet there's one bad "from the bar" post at some point. I might get around to posting something about Friday and Saturday when they hit the site.
