The Friday Post

Wow, can I come up with catchy post titles or what?

Alright, so I have a few things to go over this week, most of which were from this week or last, since I've been slacking a little bit. Plus, there's a minor time constraint in that I'm actually going to try and get an iPhone today, and heading out for that adventure in about an hour. The funny thing is that Monkey has probably been in line for the last two hours or more already. He's a little crazy that way. I want one, but I'm not going to get all crazy about it. Anyway….

Trinity Series

Ok, I've been talking about posting something about this series for a while now, and honestly I just can't do it. It's not that it's horrible or anything, it's just that there's nothing in it that makes me give a damn about it yet. The first issue was ok, seemed to be setting some stuff up, but the next four issues were pretty much just one big fight for the the Three of them, like it was the back story to the Tarot card reading girl and Gangbuster. I really didn't care about her story either. Each week it was just "somethings happening" but it never went anywhere. Then issue #6 rolls around, and half of it is Wonder Woman talking about their personalities. Yeah, I'm pretty sure 3/4 of the planet knows that Superman is a stand up guy, and Batman is all dark and scary. It's like they were actually introducing the characters to the readers again. Does anyone really believe that this needed to be done? So far it really feels like this was two 12 issue miniseries that were just stuck together, and are being stretched out to make it 52. And let me tell you, there's just no way I can do 52 issues of this stuff.

Rating: 2 Stars. I'm pretty much dropping this one off my pull, which is sad. Three of the biggest heroes ever, in one book, and it's boring as hell. I'll flip through them here and there, and maybe it'll get better, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Last Defenders #5

As I've mentioned before, I was a little blah about this series at first, but it really picked up, and now I'm enjoying it.

This is a pretty solid issue, and if you've been reading the series, this is the issue where things really come together. You start to find a little out about Yandroth's plans, the original Defenders Hulk, Namor and Dr. Strange sort of make an appearance, and there's a little time travel. The whole time travel part is a little involved, which I thought was decently clever.

I also didn't see the ending of the issue coming at all. Not that it's all that amazing or anything, but I wouldn't have guessed that group in a million years.

Rating: 3 Stars. I'm enjoying it, and if you've been following the series, it's a good read.

Nova #15

This issue pretty much wraps up the story line from the last few issues of Galactus eating a planet. When we last left our hero, he was trapped on the planet with no way to escape.

I can't say too much without giving a bunch of things away, but it wraps up him getting off the planet, and the Harrow creature that he encountered on the planet. Plus, getting off the planet (you really didn't think he was going to die down there did you?) might have cost him The Worldmind.

It's a decent issue, and a nice wrap up to the story, but I wasn't blown out of my shoes or anything. Don't get me wrong, it's good, and it really makes Galactus seem like a big giant scary powerful entity, even if he is purple. It just seems like more of a wrap up issue, than a dramatic conclusion.

I'm also kind of worried and interested at the same time that the next issue looks like it's going to be something to do with Secret Invasion. I guess it makes sense, so we'll see how it goes.

Rating: 4 stars.

Guardians Of The Galaxy #3

This is one of the few titles that I really look forward to each month, and this one didn't disappoint. The writers do a pretty good job of wrapping up a few things, and also leaving you with several new questions.

In this issue, there's a big fight between the Guardians and the Cardinals from the Church of Truth. It pretty much goes badly for everyone, which I thought was a good thing. It made the characters seem that much more real people, even if they are being teleported around the universe by a talking dog.

The issue wraps up the fight, you find out who and why the Church was so interested in one of them, and Major Victory has a non-friendly visitor who didn't talk a whole lot, but beat on everyone a bit.

Solid issue and as always a good read. At the end it also mentions that the next issue looks like it might deal with Secret Invasion, so we'll see how that goes. I have a lot of faith though.

Rating: 4 stars.

Ok, that's all for today probably,  but I still have Secret Invasion #4 to go though, and I'll give you the in-depth spoiler post here soon.
