Movie Stuff

I thought I would post a few things about upcoming and recent movies.

First off though, read DVO's Event Posts below, it's good stuff. Second, we now have a poll up and running on if you think Tony Stark is a Skrull. The poll needs a little work, in that it's a bit too big, but for right now it works. Go vote.

I might be way behind on this, but I caught wind of the Gotham Cable News site today. It's a CNN like site being used as a viral type campaign for the new Batman movie. Hopefully you figured that out when it said "Gotham" in the title.

They really went all out with this. They have Anthony Michael Hall as a CNN like news anchor doing a show, and you can watch the video. They even went so far as to have advertising on the site, complete with their own web pages and 800 numbers. Yes, I called the one for Betty's House Of Pies, it was mildly amusing. You can leave a message, which always makes me wonder if someone, somewhere, actually has to listen to them all.

You can go check out the site HERE.

DVO and EvilArtist have been getting more and more worried that The Dark Knight might be bad, simply because with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk being good, the chances of three in a row seem slim.

Well, I have faith in two things, The Dark Knight will be at least decent, and that the super hero movie streak will end in December with Punisher War Zone. I really hope I'm wrong, as I like movies with guns and things blowing up, but the trailer did not instill any confidence in me. Plus, the guy doesn't look like the Punisher, especially in whatever vest thing with the big collar they have him running around in. If you can't hide the guy behind a mask, he needs to look the part at least. Maybe I'm totally wrong, and it'll be at least average or better, but my expectations are very low. If you really want to, you can check out the trailer HERE.

None of us had posted anything about the new Hulk movie, so I thought I would throw something in here.

I enjoyed The Incredible Hulk. It was really what the first movie should have been. Not that I hated the first one at all, it's just that I thought this one did everything a little better.

First off, it really just decided the first Hulk movie didn't exist. Which I think was a good idea overall. Second it really took it's origin cues more from the old TV show than anything else. It was a little updated of course, but the part (right at the beginning) where Ed Norton was in the chair and the bullseye looking light is centering itself on his forehead, is pretty a classic scene from the TV show. Nice touch.

The story was good, the Hulk showed up enough in the beginning to keep it interesting, and the Bruce Banner stuff didn't overwhelm the movie, but it did come close. I get that you need a lot more of a human element in the movie rather than just a CGI Hulk wailing on things, but the love story part of it could have been a little bit shorter. Again though, not bad at all. The big fight at the end was pretty good, but it did suffer a little bit at points where things are moving around so fast that it was hard to tell what the hell was happening. There were more than a few geek points in the movie, both comic book related, and non. Bill Bixby sort-of makes an appearance in that he's on the TV at some point in a clip from The Courtship of Eddie's Father, which I thought was a nice touch. Lou Ferrigno and Stan lee both show up again, and Lou even has a few lines. There are also two other potential characters from the comics that pop up, and I caught one, but not the other until DVO brought it up after the movie. I'll leave you to figure them out on your own so as not to ruin it.

Overall it was a really solid movie, and I hope it does well enough that they can try to pull off another. I'm thinking though that with the Captain America and the Avengers movie coming out in 2010 though, that if we see th Hulk again anytime soon, that it's going to be in the Avengers movie.
