Secret Invasion #3 - Super Spoiler Edition

Here we are at issue number three, and things are starting to get a little interesting. Which is strange, because while not a whole hell of a lot happens in this issue, everything that does is pretty important.

Obviously, since it says Super Spoiler Edition right in the title, there's going to be a lot of spoilers below. Hell, some of this may even mess up other things you haven't read yet, so proceed at your own risk.

It starts out on the downed S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. They're in the water, things are flooding, everything is broken because of the Skrull virus, and it's raining out just add insult to injury. Oh yeah, they're also in the Bermuda Triangle.

I do like that they make a joke here about how the Helicarrier seems to be going down all the time. I think it happened once in World War Hulk (thought that might be a lie), I think it happened in Red Hulk, I think it almost happened in Hercules, and it's happened again here. The Helicarrier is the new whipping boy.

Anyway, they make it on to the main deck, and Jarvis, the Avengers' eternal butler who is actually a Skrull, asks for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s total surrender.

We then jump to Thunderbolt Mountain, where in the first issue, an old school Captain Marvel (or Mar-Vell) Skrull look alike blasted out the side of their headquarters. The Captain Marvel is about to kill off someone, and looks like he starts to cry. Norman Osborn stands up, and says "You can't do it, can you?". The Captain Marvel Skrull doesn't say anything, and Norman asks him if he would like to have a drink and talk about it.

No idea what's going on there. I guess it might be possible that the bands are somehow making the Captain Marvel a little more sympathetic, or something, but I guess I'll just have to wait a bit on that one.

We then jump to Camp Hammond, where The Initiative trains all of their new heroes. I won't go into a lot of detail here, but the basic idea is that they get everyone rounded up, and are going to send them to New York to fight the new Super Skrull Guys that landed there at the end of the last issue. The interesting thing here is that Yellow Jacket is sending them in, and he's a Skrull.

Now it jumps to New York, where the Young Avengers are fighting the Super Skrull Guys, but getting wailed on. The Initiative shows up, and the fight is on, but not just yet because we then jump to…

…Spider-Woman walking around the Savage Land. In case you are not up on the current Skrull count, Spider-Woman is not only a Skrull, but a Queen Skrull. Spider-Woman-Skrull bumps into Echo, and S-W-S blasts Echo. She then makes her way to where Tony Stark is trying to rebuild his armor in an old Savage Land Lab.  Spider-Woman-Skrull shows up in the doorway, and tells Tony he can relax, that he did it. She goes on about how Tony will go down in Skrull history as it's Greatest Soldier, and that she, as the Queen Skrull, loves him.

Tony says he's not a Skrull, and she goes on to pretty much explain that his true identity had to be hidden from him for him to do what he did. She then goes down the list of things, like turning the heroes against each other (Civil War), and setting himself up as the most important person in the world. It ends there, with Tony saying nothing.

Now, I'm actually curious as to how they are going to play this. A lot of people point to Tony being a Skrull. I mean, he has pretty much screwed with everything lately, and what the Queen Skrull told him is pretty much spot on. He divided, and the Skrulls conquered. I'll be interested in seeing what they decide to do with him, but I think it was an interesting twist that they didn't just come right out with a yes or no. Is he a Skrull and doesn't know it? Or is he the real Tony Stark, and the Skrull virus he has running though his veins just messing with his head?

Then the comic jumps to New York again, and now we have a little fighting going on. This doesn't last long though, like three panels, before all of the Skrulls start shouting something in Skrull (nice touch) and throwing their fists in the air. The Super Skrull Guys then start shooting purple stuff, and it hits every member of The Initiative. (On a side note, I wonder what the deal is with the Theater in the background having the name Sam Kinison on it?)

On the next page Vision, while telling the Skrulls someone else will come and defeat them, pretty much has his head blown off. Someone else gets blasted (I can't tell who), and then the ground starts to shake. The art here is pretty good, because the images look fuzzy, giving it a shaky look.

The one Skrull, whose hand was all Purple and ready to blast someone, looks like he explodes. Then, on the last page, stands Nick Fury with the biggest gun I think anyone in the Marvel Universe has been drawn with. With Nick is six people, whose names I'm not sure of. Might have to go online and track them down, but if anyone already knows, leave a comment.

Again, not a lot happened, but everything that did was pretty important. I'm interested to see Nick Fury and his new Commandos (as he called them) kick some ass. I'm also hoping they wrap up the Tony stuff, and the Captain Marvel stuff, in these pages, rather than making me have to buy something else. I'm curious to see if they let Stark be a Skrull, and I'm also really interested if they are going to kindof/sortof bring Captain Marvel back to life, even though he is just a Skrull posing as Marvel.

I'll be posting a lot more stuff (hopefully) this weekend. I'll probably be putting up the same kind of detailed spoiler about Final Crisis #1 also. Talk to you all then.
