Late Night Ramblings

THAT FUCKING GHOST SHARK MOTHER FUCKER BETTER BRING ME MY COMICS ON WEDNESDAY DAMMIT!!!

Okay, I dont actually care that much. But while out drinking tonight we both agreed that the only possible way I would remember to remind him to bring my comics on Wednesday is by me posting it here. This actually even sets aside the fact that I have like 50 or so of his comics.

So on drinking tonight with Ghost Shark . . .

We went to see Indiana Jones tonight. We both agreed that we enjoyed it, which is a rarity in and of itself for us to agree on a movie. But we both also agreed it lacked a bit from the others, Even setting aside the more sci-fi elements of it. Sure everyone is much older in the cast, we expected that. Sure it's been basically 20 years since we've seen an Indy flick, but we were expecting that as well.

The core issues really? We've actually come too far technologically. I know, sounds crazy don't it? But while we both kinda knocked around it for a moment ot two, we ultimately agreed, CGI effects have kind of tarnished this flick. That's not to say we  didn't enjoy it. We both really dug seeing Indy again. But you are always aware that it is a flick made in 2008.

Maybe an example is best. We all remember the scene in "Raiders" where Indy is overtaking the truck carryng the Ark right? Well when you hit the point in the scene where Indy has to be dragged behind the truck, back then you actually had to figure out how to drag a guy behind a truck without killing him. These days? Not so much. I mean, the action sequences looked real anough I suppose, but you are ever so aware that it is CGI making the magic happen. And maybe that's ultimately the problem. It's not a failing of the movie as much as it is we in this day and age we are ever aware of the man behind the curtain.

So beyond that we drank much alcohol and rambled aimlessly on many things. Shark assured me there was a means of posting to the blog remotely through a mobile device with email access, which could make the next time we are all out drinking quite entertaining for all of you. I'm sure you will all be abundantly aware of when we realize that potential.

So on to the mindnumbingly long reading list for the week. Some of this I've already read (very little) but I'll just share the order for now.

  1. Justice League of America #21 - Anyone want to bet this ties in to Final Crisis? (Hint, don't bet me, i've already read it)
  2. Fantastic Four #557 - Somewhere between Ultimates series 2 and their FF run, the Millar/Hitch train seems to have fallen off the tracks. I'm buying and reading this in spite of myself.
  3. Daredevil #107 - I'm still reading Brubaker's run and still not bowled over by it. It's not been bad, I'm just waiting for it to get "good".
  4. X-Men Legacy #212 - I think I finally figured out why I have been buying and (somewhat) enjoying this, but that's another post.
  5. X-Factor #31 - I understand that soon not only does this book crossover into Secret Invasion (which I'm buying) buy it also directly ties to She Hulk (which I'm not buying). Might be time to jettison soon.
  6. Uncanny X-Men #498 - Even if this book started sucking with this issue, I suppose I would be committed until #500. Fortunately I'm still currently digging it.
  7. Batman #677 - The first of three DC books by Grant Morrison this week.
  8. Ultimate Spiderman #122- This might be the furthest down (or up depending on how you view it) the reading list this book has ever been. I'll chalk it up to the obscene length of the reading list for now.
  9. All Star Superman #11 - Anyone beyond me noticed how DC has been pushing the "All Star" brand on the cover to be less conspicuous? Anyone wanna place odds on whether we ever see All Star Wonder Woman as announced?
  10. Thor #9- I'm still semi-waiting for the announcement that JMS is leaving this book to sign exclusively with DC. And if Matt Fraction were to pick up the reigns, I'd be okay with that.
  11. Mighty Avengers #14 - SKRULLS!!!!
  12. New Avengers #41 - MORE SKRULLS!!!
  13. The Immortal Iron Fist #15 - Has it slipped past anyone else's notice that Matt Fraction books are coming later in the reading list? It hasn't slipped my notice.
  14. Giant Size Astonishing X-Men #1 - Is ther really any point in numbering these kinds of things? Is anyone confused into thinking this books is a new story arc? I bet not. I want to be excited by the end of this arc, but I'm betting I end up more excited by the thought that the end of this arc brings us closer to the beginning of Ellis' Astonishing run.
  15. Final Crisis #1 - Okay, I'm not actually looking forward to it the most, but it is the big fucking event from DC this summer. I should at least give the first issue priority right?
